I’ll be honest, over the 10 years that I have been operating Alexis Keenan Video, I haven’t really sat down and made a list of goals that empowered and excited me. More often than not, it was a vague idea to make more money or make more videos, maybe network more. It’s always more of something. Always a little vague and not very inspirational. Mostly my goals just left me feeling anxious and a little stressed.
This year is different. This year I have motion graphics. This year, I have an idea of where I am going, and what it will look like when I get there. This year I have guides. Not guides like a TV guide (dating myself), but guides as in people whom I look up to and who are sharing their knowledge with me and others in the industry. So this year, I’m excited, (a little nervous), and inspired.
Find your own goals that inspire and excite you this year by seeking out and following those people that already have what you want. Whether it is a new career or a position that you want to have, maybe it’s a house in your favorite city. It doesn’t matter what it is, so long as they have achieved it. Follow them on social channels, check out their work and if it feels appropriate, reach out to them for a connection.
Use guides, whether those guides are your inspirational people, a coach, or self created, you will need something to give you a path. Trust me, I’ve “winged it” for many years and nothing changed. Be prepared for your path to change and adjust to fit your life. No one path is the same as the next person’s, so be prepared to make adjustments as you learn and grow. Progress doesn’t happen overnight, but it also doesn’t happen if the work doesn’t get done, so don’t give up, keep going.
This year, I’m most excited to expand my network via social channels. This is something that I’ve always been timid to explore, but now I feel pulled to connect with some amazing talented people around the world. Through these new connections my goal is to collaborate on projects, both personal and client based. Finally, I’m ready to join the ranks of professional people making a six figure income as freelancers in the industry. I know it is possible, so I know I can do it.
